David Hasselhoff est un acteur et chanteur américain, né le 17 juillet 1952 à Baltimore (Maryland).
Après avoir étudié les arts dramatiques à Chicago puis à Los Angeles, David Hasselhoff fait ses armes sur le petit écran à partir de 1975 dans le soap Les Feux de l'amour, où il interprète un séduisant médecin. Six saisons plus tard, il accède à la consécration internationale en devenant un héros des temps modernes dans la série K 2000 (1982). À bord de sa célèbre voiture noire aussi perfectionnée que bavarde, Michael Knight combat les injustices pendant quatre ans.
Privilégiant une carrière musicale pendant plusieurs années, l'acteur fait son come-back à la télévision en 1989 dans Alerte à Malibu. Annulée après une saison sur NBC, la série est rachetée par Hasselhoff et des partenaires pour connaître encore dix saisons de succès en syndication. Dans le maillot d'un sauveteur de la plage de Malibu, il y côtoie des naïades aussi prestigieuses que Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth et Carmen Electra. Parallèlement, il multiplie les téléfilms et tient un autre rôle principal dans la série spin-off centrée sur son personnage, Baywatch Nights (1995).
David Hasselhoff profite de sa renommée pour percer sur grand écran. En 2004, il joue son propre rôle dans Bob l'éponge - le film, adaptation en long métrage du dessin animé à succès. La même année, il réunit son amour pour le sport et ses origines en incarnant l'entraîneur allemand de Même pas mal ! (Dodgeball) (2004) aux côtés de Ben Stiller et Vince Vaughn. Sous la direction de Frank Coraci deux ans plus tard, il joue le patron d'Adam Sandler dans la comédie Click : télécommandez votre vie (2006).
En 2015, il fait changer son nom en David Hoff, avant de revenir sur cette décision en 2016 et de reprendre son patronyme complet.
