Biographie de David Gilmour

David Jon Gilmour, né le 6 mars 1946 à Grantchester, près de Cambridge, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et producteur britannique. Sa célébrité est surtout liée à sa carrière au sein de Pink Floyd dont il a été guitariste et chanteur.

En 2018, le magazine Rolling Stone le classe comme le sixième meilleur guitariste de tous les temps.

David a également été nommé «meilleur musicien sur guitare Fender de tous les temps» par un sondage effectué par le magazine spécialisé Guitarist, arrivant en tête devant d’autres guitaristes de légende tels que Jimi Hendrix ou Eric Clapton.

David Jon Gilmour naît à Cambridge, plus précisément dans la localité de Grantchester, en Angleterre. Son père, Douglas Gilmour, est maître de conférences en zoologie à l'université de Cambridge; sa mère, Sylvia, enseignante et monteuse de films.

David connaît une enfance solitaire, malgré sa sœur et ses deux frères. Il est envoyé en pension à cinq ans alors que ses parents sont partis aux États-Unis pour y poursuivre leurs carrières. L'absence et la permissivité de ses parents lui laissent une certaine liberté, notamment pour fréquenter ses premiers pubs, ce qui ne l'empêche pas aussi de souffrir de cette absence. Gilmour privilégie vite la musique aux études. À 13 ans, il reçoit sa première guitare, une acoustique empruntée à un voisin (et jamais rendue). Il apprend à jouer en essayant de reproduire des chansons qu'il entend à la radio, grâce notamment à un disque d'apprentissage de Pete Seeger. ...
